   Clean and Green

Whether at home or at work, it is always time for a little "spring cleaning" to implement more environmentally practices into your home and clear out excess clutter.

Remember to use Less-Toxic Cleaning Alternatives around the house to limit your family's exposure to harmful chemicals in your household environment.

At Work...
  • Manila folders can be turned every which way and reused with a new label.

  • Remember to buy items that can be reused such as tape dispensers.

  • Watch the amount of emails you are printing. Can the same information be transferred to a document and printed using less paper? The same goes for copying information from the web.
  •  Use double-sided copying as your default!

  • Send in the “GET OFF JUNK MAIL CARD”  and contact any of the catalog companies or businesses advertising for work-related courses and remove yourself from their lists, or change onto electronic catologs.

  • Use your bulletin boards for relaying important office information.
Use a grease board for meeting agendas. Review the amount of information you are copying and distributing for meetings. Cut back whenever feasible.
  • Keep a recycle bin by every desk! Placing garbage and recycle side-by-side makes everyone's job job easier.

At Home...

  • Give your extra stuff away on www.Freecycle.Org. It’s free to takers and givers!

  • Give your extra stuff to any of the thrift-type stores such as the Salvation Army, Goodwill, St. Vincent’s DePaul, Last Chance Mercantile

  • Have a garage sale! Great way to meet your neighbors and it’s fun!

  • Buy quality, not quantity. Repair when you can.

  • Take your electronic waste to the Monterey Regional Waste Management District in Marina or Hope Services in Seaside.

  • Recycle your motor oil. Receive a container and filter bag from your garbage hauler.  Place full oil container and filter in bag on curb next to recycle bin on your service day:

    Monterey: Monterey Disposal @ (831) 372-7977

    Other cities: Waste Management @ (831) 384-5000.

  • Send in the “GET OFF JUNK MAIL CARD”
  • Remember to recycle your household batteries and convert to rechargeable batteries. Rechargeables are Recyclable!
Have a wonderful time cleaning and remember that the easiest way to avoid messy spring cleaning extravaganzas and junk taking over your living spaces is to
  1. REDUCE WASTE
  2. REUSE WHAT YOU CAN
  3. RECYCLE!
