Did
you get something on your door?
Then lucky you! Your
site has been chosen for the next step of our
program. What will happen:
On the date
listed on your door hanger or poster, city staff
will either come door to door to deliver free
recycling bins and free promotional items for
your home, or you are invited on a specific
day and time to come and learn about recycling
and pick up your free bin along with some free
promotional items.

What are you supposed to put
in the bin?
All recyclables
(bottles, cans, newspaper, magazines, plastics,
cardboard and regular paper) goes in one bin,
the big blue one! Recycling reduces the amount
of waste you put out for collection... For a
detailed list,

download a printable guide
for the Blue Cart!

Why do I only get one bin?
Here in Monterey,
we no longer separate the different types of
materials. All the recyclables including Glass,
Plastic, Aluminum and paper (including
newspaper, magazines & general paper) all go
into the same container....ALL MIXED UP.
Monterey City
Disposal Service, your waste hauler, has a
recycling sorting facility where they take your
material and sort it for you!
For more
information about their sorting facility, check
out the
MCDS
website.

Why Commingled Recycling?
Research shows
participation and recycling levels increase when
sorting is not required. Commingled recycling
is more efficient because collection trucks can
hold more materials in a single load. New
recycling technology allows materials to be
sorted at a central location.

What if you already have
a bin?
You
are more than welcome to continue to use your
personal bin. Please empty the contents of your
bin into the new, blue recycling container in
your waste enclosure.
We are offering
these new containers to assist those that may
not already have them.

What if you don't want to
participate?
That's OK if you
don't want to participate in the recycling
program. We just ask that you do not ruin it for
the other tenants that have been asking for this
program. Please continue to put all of your
waste in the trash containers provided.
**Please do not put trash in the recycling
containers.

Not only is recycling service free in the City
of Monterey, but it can actually save your
